Best Makeup For Colder Weather

🎶It’s the most wonderful time of the yearrrr!🎶 Err ok it’s not Christmas yet not sure why that song is in my head but when I think about dry patchy skin, I think of Christmas aka cold weather! I apologize, my brain is a little wonky these days when it comes to relevance. Anywhoooo I’m back again with another blog post, but this time it’s my first ever beauty post!!! I love these little firsts of blogging I keep experiencing and this one is a definite fave because common, who doesn’t love makeup? And I know I know, maybe this post is jumping the gun a little. I mean, Toronto hit an all time high in weather this following week, we hit 33 degrees! (felt more like 38 degrees) at the end of September?? Can’t summer just give up already! But I know that cooler weather always creeps up on us and I wanna be thoroughly prepared when it does. I’ve gathered a few of my favourite makeup items that I love to use when the weather gets cooler!

Beauty Blender Makeup Sponge

I’m gonna start with an oldie but a goodie, and it’s so essential in my makeup routine because, well, it’s simply the best! I love using foundation brushes (you’ll see in the next item) but there is nothing quite like a Beauty Blender for getting that hydrated, radiant glow with your foundation. I opt for a Beauty Blender during cold, drier weather because it blends foundation smoothly, and doesn’t cling to my dry patches. During the fall and winter, I tend to wear foundation which is a little more sheer, and the Beauty Blender is perfect for applying just the right amount!

Sigma Beauty F80 Flat Kabuki Brush

Ah the Sigma F80 Kabuki brush. Thank you beauty gods for creating such a beautiful, perfect, incredible, blendable, seamless makeup brush (get a room already Claudia geeeezee). This brush has been my go-to foundation brush for about 4 years, ever since Jaclyn Hill recommended it in a favourites video. The soft and dense fibres of the brush always leave a flawless foundation finish, without looking streaky or blotchy. Plus I find this is the only foundation brush that doesn’t suck up half of my foundation which is always a win! This brush will be my ride or die for life. Check out the reviews, I’m pretty sure it’s everyone’s ride or die!

Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer

‘But Claudia, this is $70, are you crazy??” OK yes, this is a very pricey primer but I wouldn’t be recommending it unless I truly love it. And I do. This stuff is magic in a bottle. I initially tried out a few samples before I took the plunge and purchased it. And I’ll be honest, at first I had mixed opinions on it. The consistency wasn’t like your average primer. It’s texture is very runny and silky, and when I applied it to my face it felt like more of a very light, airy face cream than a sticky primer. But I still gave it a good enough chance to see it’s results. It wasn’t until my sample ran out and I went back to my normal primer that I noticed my skin looked parched and patchy. That’s when it clicked. The Hourglass primer made my skin look healthy, radiant and my foundation lasted longer on my face than any other primer I’ve ever used. I purchased the primer in February of this year and I still have half the bottle left. This $70 primer will last you a long time so don’t feel guilty and TREAT YO SELF! (There’s also a 0.3 oz bottle available for only $25 if you wanna save some $$$, I got chu)

Urban Decay ‘Naked Skin’ Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer

Here’s another item that I purchased solely based on Youtube beauty gurus who swore it was the best concealer they ever used. And they were right. I normally wear the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer in the warmer months, but when Fall creeps up and cool weather comes in, I find myself reaching for this concealer instead of my Nars. The consistency is very light and runny, and normally for concealer I try to stay clear of that type of texture, but this one is truly weightless, and works really well at being hydrating. I’m also not a big fan of very heavy coverage concealers (similar to Tarte’s Tape Shape…yeahhh..) but this concealer gives just enough coverage without looking covered up or clogged.

Yves Saint Laurent Touche Éclat Radiant Touch

When I first started getting into higher-end makeup a few years ago, this was one of my first purchases. I know right, YSL as my first beauty purchase? High roller over here! LOL! Also, ok this is probably really silly but I also bought it because one of One Direction’s girlfriends claimed it was her favourite beauty product (comment down below if you know who I’m talking about – that would be hilarious and I wouldn’t feel so silly!) This isn’t your typical concealer as it is more of a radiant pen, for lack of better words. It is jam packed with hydrating properties that give off a luminous, highlighting effect for under the eyes. In the cooler months, I find my under eyes get very dull, dark and dry, and this radiant concealer covers that all up and makes your eyes pop! My mom also loves this product for concealing her dark circles and wrinkles. Win-win!

Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra Liquid 24H Longwear SPF 15 Foundation

I discovered this foundation in the beginning of the summer and I’ve already gone to Nordstrom to pick up my Fall shade because, well, I got pale AF this last month. Damn you summer tan! Why can’t you last forever!!! I already know this is going to be my go-to foundation when I wanna doll up for a shopping day out with friends or a date night with my boyfriend. It has a semi-matte finish, but don’t let that scare you, this foundation is beyond hydrating and comfortable to wear. When I want a bit of a more sheer ultra hydrating look, I apply this with my Beauty Blender instead of my F80 Kabuki. It does wonders let me tell you. Another great benefit of this foundation is the added SPF. I think many of us tend to forget that we still need to protect our face from the sun in the cooler months, and we often forget to apply sunscreen, so it’s nice to know that this foundation contains SPF 15.

Nars Sheer Glow Foundation

If you’re into the beauty world like myself, you already know this product has a ton of mixed reviews. But I’m going to break it down for you so I can persuade you to purchase this amazing product.  Nars Sheer Glow has been around for a long time. People either love it or hate it. They either think it’s the best foundation ever, or think it’s an absolute fail. Personally, I think people aren’t giving it a good enough chance to fall in love with it. The word sheer is in the title, so don’t expect a high coverage foundation. But that being said, it is very buildable if you desire a medium coverage look. It’s main ingredient is glycerin, which is what gives the foundation that ultra moisturizing feeling when you apply it to the skin. It also contains Vitamin C and Tumeric, which will leave your skin looking brighter, radiant and glowing. A tip I learned from a makeup artist is that you really need to warm up this foundation before you apply it. She taught me to pour a small amount at the back of my hand, and rub it with my fingers for about 10-15 seconds until it feels ‘warmed up’. After I started using this technique, the foundation worked and looked even better. Trust me, if your skin tends to lean more towards the drier, flakier side in the fall/winter, try this foundation! I promise you you’ll love it!

Urban Decay Naked Skin Shapeshifting Palette

There’s a lot of Urban Decay in this post, but thats only because I loveee their products! This one is a game changer. You get the best of both worlds in this palette. I mean, contour powders on one side, creams on the other side? URBAN DECAY HAS CHANGED THE GAME!!! What I love most about this palette is it’s so versatile. If your skin is having a dry day you use the cream side. If your skin is oily, you use the powder side. Or my favourite, combine both! I think this is the best contour palette for any skin type on any day, with so many different shades to match any skin colours. AND it’s only $58. Yes please!

Urban Decay Naked Flushed Bronzer,Highlighter & Blush Palette

I bought my mom this product for Christmas this past year. That along with some other things from Urban Decay because she really needed an update to her makeup stash. Secretly, I purchased her this product because I really wanted to use it (sorry mom if you’re reading this). This palette is perfect for those who don’t want to purchase a bronzer, highlighter and blush individually. It’s also small and compact, so you can throw it in your bag or purse to touch up on the go. Why am I recommending this product? Because it’s so beyond creamy for a powder formula I couldn’t believe it. The pressed formula is so silky and smooth that even on my driest days, it didn’t break up or cling to any dry patches on my cheeks. Plus the colour payoff is immaculate. I really need just one swipe of my brush to get the exact amount of product I need.

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder

Hourglass prices scare people all the time. I don’t blame you. It’s a very expensive luxury brand that I always need to be 110% sure that I want to spend my hard earned money on. So I do a lot of research on there products. Read reviews, get recommendations from friends and makeup artists. After finally being 110% sure about this product, I went out and purchased it (along with the matching bronzer because it was a ‘treat yo self’ kind of day…my poor wallet!). If you’re looking for a blinding, out of this world highlighter, this isn’t the product for you. But if you’re looking for a soft, elegant, flattering highlight, I think I just helped you find your next purchase. This highlight gives you that incandescent candlelit glow that lasts all day and doesn’t leave that chunky, glittery look that some highlighters give off. This is truly one of my favourite makeup products I’ve ever tried. And I already know that once I run out, I’m going straight to Nordstrom to buy another!

Urban Decay ‘Naked’ Palette

The OG eyeshadow palette. I know there isn’t really a difference in eyeshadow when it comes to seasons, warmer or cooler, but I had to incorporate this palette because it’s one I still use day after day, no matter what. The colour range is perfect. You get warmer tones and cooler tones. You have shimmers, mattes, satins and sparkles. The formula is creamy and pigmented beyond belief. My favourite colours to use in the autumn months are Half Baked, Buck and Toasted! I don’t know what else to say other than this palette is a staple product, and deserves a place in all your makeup collections!

Anastasia Beverly Hills ‘Dip Brow’ Pomade Waterproof Brow Color

If you don’t already know by now, Anastasia Beverly Hills makes the best brow products of all time. I normally use the Brow Wiz in the summer when I’m on the go, but when I want a more intense, darker brow, I find myself grabbing the Pomade instead. It’s creamy and really easy to work with using an angled brow brush. It also never dries out on me! I don’t know how that’s possible with how many times I’ve opened it, it’s still just as creamy as when I purchased it. What I love about this product especially for the cooler months, is that it’s hydrating – and waterproof! So on those stubborn rainy days or when flakes of snow touch your face, you can rest easy knowing your brows are staying in place.

Yves Saint Laurent ‘Rouge Volupté Shine’ Oil-in-Stick Lipstick

I’m a sucker for good packaging and this lipstick takes the cake. Look how gorgeous this lipstick is! I love that it shows a preview of the colour on the tube so when you have it in your makeup bag or makeup desk you can easily identify it’s colour. As well as the the beautiful packaging, this lipstick is perfect. I only own one colour called Lavalliere Nude 44, pictured above. It’s the most perfect light lavender nude colour I’ve ever owned. To describe this lipstick, I would call it a lip balm on crack. It’s not as pigmented as your typical lipstick because it contains nourishing oils that hydrate the lips, and give you just enough colour payoff so you still look like you’re wearing a lipstick. I switch out my matte lipsticks to this colour because it’s hydrating features don’t dry out my lips in the cooler months.

Nars Velvet Matte Lipstick Pencil

Yes, speaking of matte lipsticks, I know I said I change out my matte lipsticks for balms and such, but this Nars lippie is the only one I can comfortably wear without my lips drying out. It’s velvety creamy formula just glides on my lips instead of that dragging feeling some matte lipsticks have. Because it’s a pencil, I use it as a lip liner first, then I fill in. It’s the best of both worlds! And to top it all off, I think the colour range is absolutely perfect for Fall and Winter. There are so many nudes, purples, and in my opinion, some of the best reds I’ve ever seen!

Dior Addict Lip Glow Color Reviving Lip Balm

If you ask my boyfriend how many times I’ve tried to buy this Dior Lip Balm he’d probably laugh and say ‘uh, a lot.’ When I’d go into a Sephora or Nordstrom, I would swatch this baby every time. The reason it took so long to purchase? The price. I just couldn’t justify spending $40 on a lip balm. Or so it seemed…until I finally purchased it and wow, I’m kind of mad at myself that all those times I contemplated buying it I just didn’t buy it! This fancy lip balm reacts to the unique chemistry of your own lips which gives you a natural flush of custom colour. Some days it shows more pink, some days more peach, it customizes to my lip chemistry and looks stunning every time I have it on. I truly prefer this over any other lip balm I’ve ever owned. It’s so beyond hydrating without feeling sticky or tacky. I can’t wait to try out more shades!

Too Cool For School Dinoplatz Lip Balm

So I don’t actually own this product. I got a free sample of all 3 shades when I bought some makeup at Sephora. I have been eyeing this product for a while too, and it was great that I tried out the sample first because now I’m finally ready to purchase it. First of all, this stuff is only $20. First win. Second, it’s a jelly formula that at first, turned me off, but with use I realized it makes my lips feel plump and hydrated. Second win. Third, this stuff smells SOOOO good. Like beyond good. Third win. I love the colour payoff, it isn’t too strong but just enough to give you that subtle pop of colour to your lips!

Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder

I normally stay away from finishing powders in the colder seasons just because powders tend to dry my skin up, flake and look cakey. But Laura Mercier took finishing powders to a whole other level. This loose setting powder gives you an airbrushed look while leaving your skin looking matte and radiant at the same time. Its loose powder goes on sheer while blurring out any pores or fine lines on your face. You could also use this to ‘bake’ your foundation. Although I’m not a big fan of baking, oiler skin types will love this technique. Another bonus is the giant puff it comes with to apply it. I feel like a model from the 50s getting ready for a big broadway show whenever I use it haha!

Urban Decay Quick Fix Hydra-Charged Spray

Saving the best for last am I right? This setting spray is a 2-in-1 must have if you have drier skin. I love all the setting sprays from Urban Decay, especially the All Nighter one. But since it has a sticky matte finish, I use this Hydra-Charged one in the drier months because it soothes and hydrates my skin. You can use this spray for two purposes. One, as a primer. It preps my skin for makeup so well by leaving it plump and hydrated before I apply foundation. Two, as a setting spray after you finish your makeup. Sometimes foundation feels heavy and dry on my face and this spray puts lost moisture back into my skin leaving it looking healthy and glowy. I love the 1 oz spray because I leave it in my purse for whenever my skin needs a little pick me up throughout the day!

If you’ve made it the far, I salute you. This was a very long and thorough post! I really hope you gained some makeup knowledge and found some new products to add to your collection. My goal with my blog is to provide you all with nothing but the best knowledge on products that I use and truly love. I would never recommend a product that I wasn’t 100% about. That being said, I’m very aware that we all have different skin types and many of these products may not work as well on you as it does on my skin type. This is where Nordstrom comes in. What I love about their website is that they have an incredible return policy. Even if items have been opened and tried, they allow returns because come on, sometimes things don’t always work out and we don’t want to be stuck with them! It’s our hard earned money and we want to make sure we are spending it in on the right products! Stay tuned for a skin care products post!

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!!
