I know I keep saying every post is my favourite, but believe me when I say THIS is my favourite post! I bought the MOPPE chest of drawers from IKEA over the summer and was using it as storage in my office. Although I love the birch plywood effect it originally has, it really didn’t go with anything in my office. My office is black and white, with lots of pops of pastel colours (fun right?? I can’t wait to do a post on my office!) So I thought to myself “This is IKEA, of course I could give this a mini makeover!” And here we are!

What you’ll need:

IKEA Moppe Chest of Drawers 31x18x32 cm $22.99

Any colour of acrylic paint $1.99-$4.99

White acrylic paint $1.99-$4.99

Crystal knobs 10pk $9.98  (optional) *see tip below*

-Hot Glue Gun

-Paint brushes

Step 1: The MOPPE Chest of Drawers is already assembled. All you have to do is remove the drawers from the frame, and paint both!

The original MOPPE has drawers that are pulled via a little cutout in the wood (pictured in Supplies). I decided to add knobs, so I turned the drawers around – I used the side that was totally flat instead (pictured above). The side with the wood cutout was facing inwards, towards the back of the MOPPE. I chose to paint the frame white because it went with my office aesthetic. But feel free to leave it birch or paint it any colour you’d like!

Step 2: I painted all of the drawers white. The front, sides and the top. With a white base coat, it allowed my pink colours to really pop. I only used one coat of paint to achieve this.

Step 3: Pinks are the colours that match with my office. But again, you can pick any colours you’d like! To get the pastel colour, I mixed small amounts of different shades of pink with lots of white paint.

Step 4: And the painting part is over! I did 2-3 coats of the pink paint to get the colour looking very opaque. Looks so good already!

Step 5: Once the paint had dried, I used a ruler to measure out the centre of each drawer. Being the perfectionist that I am, I didn’t want to guess where the knobs went, in case some ended up looking uneven.

Step 6: I got these beautiful crystal knobs from Amazon. It was a 10 pack for only $9.98. I love glitzy glam things that shine, so when I got these in the mail I knew they were going to look so fab on the Moppe unit.

*tip* Any knob with a flat base with will work. If you do not want to purchase knobs, the original side of the drawer has a cut out part that acts as a handle!

Step 7: Hot glue gun the bottom of the knobs.

Step 8: Quickly, press firmly onto the centered dotted spot where it was measured. Hold for a few seconds to ensure it’s secure.

Step 9: Insert the drawers back into the frame of the unit.

Voila! Look at that! I can’t believe how incredible it looks! I pictured it in my head when I was debating on colours but I didn’t think it was going to look this good. Oh and here’s another fun tip! Brainstorm! I always like to draw a sketch of my DIY’s and get a colour scheme on paper before actually doing the DIY, just so I know what colours go well and if I’m going to like the outcome. I think that’s interior schooling coming into play!! If you recreate this DIY I would LOVE to see it! Tag me on Instagram!

Enjoy this little photoshoot. She looked stunning in every shot. A true natural beauty
